I am glad to report that my
solo exhibition in China has met with great success.
Thank you to everyone for your kind support and encouragement.

Personal experiences
My time in China gave me experiences I shall always treasure.
It was very exciting and indeed rewarding to be given the privilege
of meeting those important in the cultural and political world.
But in my heart I was most moved by my contact with the young.
A meeting at Taimiao, Beijing
A student from Jingdezhen, the birthplace of Chinese ceramics,
travelled to Taimao for he admired my work and wanted to meet
me. He had to wait three days before we managed to get together.
I was moved by his enthusiasm and the determination he showed
in continually coming to come to the gallery hoping to meet
me.
Another meeting, at Shandong Museum:
A student at the military school came to the museum and was
greatly impressed by my work there, even visiting it three times
in a single day. On the last day of the exhibition we were able
to meet. He offered me his hand and wanted to take photographs.
In fact we shook hands repeatedly with great passion. He seemed
delighted when I gave him a signed catalogue and for my part,
I was deeply touched by his pure enthusiasm.
A student, at Shandong Museum
Although he was a student at the Academy of Art and Design,
Tsinghua University, he missed my exhibition in Beijing. Instead
he had to make the long journey, taking a flight of one and
a half hours, to see it in Jinan. But this he did and I was
deeply impressed by his determined effort to see my work.
By visiting over and over again the Chinese express their depths
of feeling and respect. The young gave me this compliment showing
their spirit of personal dedication. It was a revelation, not
least because such sincerity and commitment seems to be fading
away in Japan.
Feel On Chinese ceramics
I could not leave China without seeing some ceramics!
I was fortunate to see a work of the Han Chao era, made about
1800 years ago, owned by a collector of antiquities.
I thought I found similarities between this piece and my own
work for they both embody nature and yet are part of it. .
In the Chandong Museum, Jinan I actually handled a ceramic vessel
made about 6,000 years ago.
I was very impressed by the technical quality. The piece was
as small as a tea bowl and amazingly light and thin. Even by
that time the potter's wheel was in use and this work clearly
showed that techniques for making fine but strong ceramics had
already been developed. .

I am very grateful to have met and got to
know so many people wherever I exhibited. My experience in China
has touched me deeply, indeed it has enriched my heart.
Sincerely I thank everyone for everything.
I should like very much indeed to visit China again if this
is possible.
I believe that this exhibition is the first step of my journey
in China. .
